If you are looking for somewhere to get great food and a cool atmosphere - head to The Red Lion. Wide choice of meals and quick bites to select. Friendly professional staff Brilliant garden area - I can't wait to spent long summer days chilling out there. In a time were good British pubs are being taken over by soulless gastro bars, The Red Lion is standing strong.
Went for sunday lunch. Awful food. I ordered beef wbich had obviously been kept warm under the grill/salamander. Curled and black and dry at the edges and the gravy had a skin on it. And it was still cold !!! Cauliflower almost raw and the cheese sauce was just milky water. Other vedge was also cold and undercooked including the carrot battons which were cold but black on top from the grill. Gravy tasted nice under the skin. Highlight was the Yorkshire pudding which i think was made by an Aunt called Bessie. I cook a lot. I would never ever serve this to a dog. That said the staff are charming and the pub is perfect. I'm a northerner so dont drink bitter down soutb so lager it is. You can either drink nut juice or Carling. Best sticking to the wine.
I ate here on a Saturday night on my way back to the hotel. I was back in the UK after 2 weeks in Belgium and Germany so it was great to eat some food that wasn't cabbage based. The bartenders were both very friendly and chatted with me throughout the night, as I was traveling alone. They recommended the Shepherd Pie, which was delicious and a very good beer. Overall this was a great meal in a classic British Pub, with good beer and great food. I was very glad I stopped here.
