We visited today at 4:45 only to be told all pies had gone, the son said to his mum this is the lady that rang earlier(don't know how he knew it was me) his mum asked me if we minded waiting 10 mins whilst she turned the oven back on we didn't we even offered to take the food away as they were closing at 5pm she told us it was fine and we could eat our pie and mash whilst she cleaned up. The food was as good as last time. And the owner told us a lot of history that we didn't know. LOVELY FOOD AND LOVE MUM AND SON. WE WOULD DEFINATELY GO BACK ON OUR NEXT TRIP.
You have to give this place a try but do check the date you are going if you want some eels. The setting is simplistic but that should not detract from the experience. Your first decision is how many pies you can eat , how much mash you want and how much green sauce do you require. 2 each and plenty of the sauce was our choice and that was about right. The pies were hot and tasty and made up of minced meat. Mash came in very handy to enable the sauce to be enjoyed, I would suggest a spoon is best to make sure none gets wasted. We were in and out the place in less than 20 minutes but that was fine and we would certainly return. Value for money was excellent and far more reasonable than the normal lunch fare in pubs. Give it a try you will not be sorry.
This used to be so good. Ruth and her son Bill who run it are lovely people and i hate to leave a bad review but overtime i visit the shop the food gets worse. I always chose Cockney's over Cookes but I'm now travelling to Camden Town for pie & mash which is a shame. Im hoping this review helps raise the standards back to how they used to be.
