What a delight. The food here just gets better but they have managed to stay just as friendly, almost casual! What a lovely way to spend an evening with friends, being wowed from one dish to the next!! The snacks were delicious particularly the beetroot and goat's cheese macaroons and it seemed to get better all the way to the friands as we paid our bill. Given the michelin starred food and delicious wine with the lack of stuffiness, we can't wait to go back.
We have visited Portland on two occasions and this really is an exceptional restaurant. The menu is beautifully designed with three options for each course, plus a selection of "snacks". The cooking is hugely inventive to create delicious meals that are beautifully presented. The cocktails are nothing short of genius. The atmosphere is professional but relaxed, and the décor impeccable. The restaurant is very competitively priced, given the quality of the cooking - this is surely one of the best value restaurants for fine dining in London.
Dinner with friends. We had booked for 8PM and decided to start with cocktails which were good if a little expensive. For dinner we decided to go with the tasting menu. Selection of snacks - chicken skin wasn't anything special, macaroons were OK and lobster rolls again were OK. Ceviche was very good, mushroom with red sorrel didn't quite make it for me, turbot with white asparagus was very good. Squab was nice but hardly anything on the plate. Dessert was probably the best part of the meal. Certainly wasn't a lot of food; it was cooked and executed quite well but didn't really deliver what was promised. As has been said before wine was expensive and not a great choice. Service was friendly but I really didn't like being told our 2 hours was up considering how much money we were spending.
