I kept a wonderful souvenir of this little wine bar when I stayed in rome. I used to go after my job....it was at least 15 years ago... now everything changed, the owner at first, but unfortunately the cusine too and is not as I left it...I can say, not so bad but it is not worth and the bill is expensive
It wasn't quite at the brilliant, wonderful, five star territory. But close. The wine selection was first rate, but the food wasn't quite up to match. Middle of the pack for Rome, which means excellent anywhere else.
Ads I walked past this place I often imagined good food and good wines. Alas neither times I ate here fulfilled the expectation. Some of the raw materials are good for example the variety of Norcia products but actual cooking is unimpressive, including their truffle which is ok when eating it but is far from permeating the gaseous space around the plate. There is an extensive wine list but it is in the process of being 'reorganised' so many of the requested bottles were missing. The Gewurtztraminer I sampled was underwhelming as was the Barbera which was a classic of the old fashioned and unpleasant acidity that characterised this wine 25 and more years ago. On a different occasion we were presented with a vastly overpriced red bottle made with local ancient grapes - however this at least was a new experience rather than just a disappointing one. On the whole pretending to be unpretentious with a tetchy landlord and standards that are well below what it promises. So many places that are better and cheaper within 10 minutes walk
