We came across this restaurant on our last day in Rome. We ordered lasagna and spaghetti carbonara. The taste was so real and different from what we are used in Australia. We really enjoyed food here. Definitely recommended!
Arriving in Italy I was looking forward to Italian smoked cured meats, good seafood and wine. Here I had all three. We started with a basket of salt cured-meats, which included hard and soft salami, blood sausage, sopressata, both hot and sweet, and others I could not identify. Along with the basket of saluma, we ordered a bruschetta, served on crusty bread which was excellent, fresh and delicious. For an entrée you can see in the picture, tender succulent baby clams and mussels cooked to perfection in a white broth, a wonderful treat, along with some good local olive oil and wine we were in heaven
Wound up here because the original restaurant we wanted to check out was closed. First up, took a good while to even be recognized that we were there. Slow service became the main story for the rest of the evening. We saw a few other people we knew and they were complaining of the same thing. The food itself was a combination of fantastic and terrible. For starters we had the dried meat plate with bruschetta. Well, the dried meat was literally a bucket of uncut meats, a little cutting board and a rather dull knife. Bruschetta? A single piece of toasted baguette with, admittedly awesome, tomato and basil. The pasta I ordered was simply divine. Perfectly cooked spaghetti tossed with fresh cherry tomatoes and basil leaves. My wife had a spaghetti with an Arrabbiata sauce that had bacon (?) in it. Not too bad, but filling. For mains she had fried chicken with salad. The chicken was little more than home made chicken strips and the salad was just greens with some (again, awesome) cherry tomatoes and shallots. All in all it was just so-so I had rabbit with artichoke, olives and capers. Petty horrid. The rabbit was cut into similarly sized chunks... so similar I suspect they were from a bag of frozen rabbit chunks. The meat was grey and tasted boiled. As well there was a good amount of water on the plate. The artichokes were ok, but spiny as if care was not given and they just chopped up and cooked the whole artichoke willy nilly. To summarize: - The basic pasta dishes are fantastic. - be careful with the meat second courses. They sound good - Service is sloowwwwww. One other note: if you sit outside be prepared to be bothered by people selling stuff (scarves, selfie sticks, bracelets, etc), buskers, and the odd panhandler.
