Wonderful little neighborhood restaurant. Outstanding pasta dishes. Delicious anti-pasta. And, of course, good wine selection. Very nice owner/wait staff - but, very limited English - just adds to the experience. On the other hand, staff is very patient with guests' limited Italian language skills.
I'm surprised to see this place rated so highly. Maybe our poor experience was because we were there in an off peak hour. There were two women working there, seemed like a mother and daughter. No other customers. Service still very slow. Meatballs were clearly from the fridge, reheated in the microwave, still cold in the middle. Pasta dish was sickeningly salty. Worst meal I've had in Italy. Not especially cheap, either.
If you are visiting the Vatican you will pay top dollar for the restaurants in the vicinity and the food will typically be for tourists - over-priced and not too good. This place is quite near and if you have the Metro travel pass just hop on the bus and enjoy. The proprietor stocks excellent wine. The prices are very reasonable for the simple plate of the day or from the menu. Not a grand choice but down to earth food.
