Once upon a time, the Landhus (which means country manor in Swiss German) really was in the country. Then the city grew up around it and the outside got a little lost in translation. But this restaurant still delivers the comfort and quality that its name implies. The traditional dining room is cozy and inviting and in summer there is a large terrace for outdoor dining. The menu has something for everybody and features seasonal selections. Everything is freshly prepared. You will not find a frozen vegetable here (except the french fries which they declare on the menu). Their pea soup is creamy and comforting, the Cordon Blue hand made, tender and delicious. This is local Zürich cuisine at its best but they also will make you a fresh pizza or a vegetarian meal. Add to this very friendly and accomodating service. Many restaurants in Zürich only offer a reduced menu between 2pm and 6pm so their kitchens can finish up lunch service and prepare for dinner. This is not the case at the Landhus. You can have everything on the menu at any time. This is particularly important for travellers who may arrive at any time. The Landhus is a 10 minute bus ride from the airport. (Take the number 768 to Seebach and you will be delivered directly to the restaurant). This place is elegant enough for a business lunch or dinner, comfortable enough to linger over a drink with a friends, and friendly enough for the whole family. If you find yourself on the airport side of Zürich, treat yourself to a visit to this hidden gem.
