We had received positive feedback about this restaurant and wanted to experience authentic Russian cuisine. We were pleased by the authentic Pelmeni soup; however, while our entrees were equally tasty, the portion size of both entrees was extremely small -- perfect for a 7 year old child, but clearly not for adults. This made for a poor value, given the the price of the entrees. In addition, with only one other family in the restaurant, the service was extraordinarily slow. It took us two full hours to complete our meal. We will not be returning to this restaurant.
Five of us had dinner there on a Saturday night. The food was generally very good. Blinis were great, as was Beef Stroganoff (maybe the best I've had). Kachapuri was good, though sort of a giant baked cheese casserole with a thin layer of baked dough on top and bottom. Portions were huge! The trout with mushrooms and cheese was good but not great. Not sure I'm a fan of cheese and fish, so maybe my fault for breaking one of my own rules. The garden salad was mostly wonderful fresh tomatoes, almost a Middle-Eastern salad. The one waiter was very friendly and explained things. She started off a little slowly but then was quite attentive. Our only big complaint was the wine. A review on Yahoo stated that, "The extensive wine list is heavy on offerings from select California vineyards." NOT! There was no list. There was a limited selection of Woodridge (Robert Mondavi's higher-volume brand) reds and whites, and they had no Georgian wines because they evidently were damaged in shipping. I recommend bringing your own bottle if you like good wine.
