I'd like to start by admitting to paying 14 euro for 1 tekka maki(tuna) and a pot of tea additional to tipping1.2 euro just cuz they're family owned and the server (prob wife of owner) needs it. Being from the US that price is f'in ridiculous!!!! The tuna might've been fresh, should've been blue fin at the least, but obviously not Toro cuz they said they didn't carry Toro tonight. The tea must've been farm specific and more expensive than the tuna. Maybe cuz I spoke Japanese the whole time that they thought I'd spend more. Whatever it may be they are charging too much. I wanted to try the karaage, but compared to the common US prices I'd rather buy a 8oz filet mignon. On the up side, the owner's help's dog that was leashed to the fish tank was super cute.
I spotted this little restaurant when I was walking around the 16th arrondissement, and I decided to check it out with my friends on another day. We had made a reservation for 7 p.m., but, to our surprise, the door was locked when we arrived. Soon the patron came to open the door and seated us. More guests were arriving little by little. The clientele looked mostly Japanese, which was a good sign. We ordered assortments of sushi and sashimi, some miso soup, and I also chose some green-tea ice cream for dessert. We were generally rather pleased with the quality of the food, but the prices were a bit too high. The waitress did not speak much and when she spoke she may have sounded a bit grumpy. This may have been due to a minor language barrier – she seemed much more talkative with the Japanese guests. We were communicating with the waitress in French and in English.
