We went there for lunch on the 23rd of august, a Saturday, recommended by Pudlowski, a famous French food critic. The service was the usual French grumpiness, but the real issue was the food: uninspired, a slab of pork meat with some mashed potatoes for one, a tartare with uncooked yet dark fries for the other. When I asked for new fries, I got the same result. I suspect that the regular chef and team were on holiday, like so many restaurants in Paris in august. Last problem, no set menu available, contrary to what the guide said. Well have to try again outside of august.
Locals know this restaurant as Chez Yazid, named for the bearded and friendly owner, who is often out on the terrace knocking back a cold one with neighborhood artists. Yazid serves up great natural/organic wines and inexpensive dishes featuring honest food. It’s an even better deal considering the surroundings: the tiny cobblestone rue St. Blaise has a bucolic village feel and is only steps away from the Philippe Starck-designed Mama Shelter hotel and music venue La Flèche d’Or. Grab a table out on the terrace of the Casque d'Or and watch the world go by!
This little restaurant is near the cemetary Père Lachaise and worth a little detour. The street it is in is paved with rocks and nice and quiet. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly, the food was nice and fresh, with an original taste. Prices were fair and service was quick and friendly. Nice little find to have a quiet and fresh dinner after a busy day. Could do with a vegetarian choice though....
