Where to eat near the Trocadero? Not at the Mandarin de Ming. This little restaurant seemed like a nice place, but the service was dreadful. We try to speak French and follow the protocol of saying "Bon jour" whenever we enter a shop or restaurant; however, we are obviously American. After we sat down, the waiter handed an ala carte menu. When we ordered soup and one starter, the waiter was clearly not happy. He asked, "That's all?" While we ate, another couple came in, and they were given the "formula" or "prix fixe" menu- which we would have used if he had given it to us. As another reviewer pointed out, we asked for tap water and the waiter opened a bottle of 3.9 euro Evian before we could object. When we finished eating, the waiter dropped dessert menus on the table. We explained that we didn't want dessert or coffee, just "l'addition." He turned and walked away. Nothing came. We asked again, and literally he turned his back. The third time, he turn away again. We have been in Paris for a month and hadn't encountered this kind of rudeness once! There are too many places to eat in Paris to waste your euros or patience at Mandarin de Ming.
Near to eiffel tower. Had 2 waitresses. Gotta wait for some time due to short of man power. Wanted to have Chinese food on the first day. Ordered omelette with crab. Fried French beans. 2 fried rice with prawns. And beef siew Mai. Omelette was oily and they used imitation crab sticks for the Omelette. Disappointment. Fried rice was bland. Can't taste any spices, garlic or onions or sauces. Only taste of oil and salt. Beef siew Mai and the fried French beans was delicious though. In opinion these ain't authentic Chinese restaurant nor Asian cuisine. It's more fusion.
