After Lebanese the previous night we moved along to another colonial cuisine import. Saigon Pantheon and HP both had excellent reviews, we just decided to try HP and were not disappointed. Spring roll starters were crispy and tasty. For mains we had chicken and prawn dishes - the salt and pepper prawns were superb, I can tase them as I type. Wine at Euro 16 for a Cote du Rhone was excellent value and it was good to try Vietnamese beer. Service was very friendly and although not busy on the night we were in (Sunday), it was still a nice atmosphere.
Like others reviewing here, we intended to eat at Saigon Pantheon which we found closed. Disappointed, we walked on looking for another place and bumped into Hong Phuc. We ordered the Nem rolls, shrimp with salt and pepper and caramelized beef in clay pot. Everything was perfect. We couldn't believe how good every dish was and our server was extremely polite and efficient. I wish we had something even close to Hong Phuc in San Diego.
I'm Vietnamese and stumbled across this gem after being told by Saigon Pantheon that they were booked out. I feel grateful to Saigon Pantheon that we were forced to go a few doors down and eat at Hong Phuc. All the traditional Vietnamese dishes with authenticity. My sister and I couldn't believe our luck. Great service too. I highly recommend this place.
