I read from TA that they have been open for many years, so I concluded that the food must be pretty good to be able to sustain for such a long time. They are a proper restaurant which serve ala carte dishes, instead of Chinese fast food. We ordered the wanton soup, hot and sour soup, sweet and sour pork and gong bao chicken. All of them were very authentic and tasty. The ingredients used were very fresh and the meat were very well cooked. If you are looking for decent Chinese food in District 7, this would be the right place.
I know this restaurant for years and it has not changed ! I came when i was still a student and now go back with my 2 little boys. They love the food ! The owner is the same for 30 years and his cuisine is always very good. Ask for specials that are not in the menu ! Overall good quality food priced reasonably for a district that has become very posh and touristy. A bonus : easy access for wheelchairs and strollers.
We love Chinese food and are big take out fans when home. Over the years, whenever we travel we ALWAYS sample Chinese food ... camping across the country, on road trips through Canada, in Munich, London, Rome, etc. So when we came upon Hoi Chang as we were exploring our Paris neighborhood while on a recent vacation, we decided we found our spot in Paris. We had a delicious meal (spring rolls, chicken curry and a beef dish) in a quiet and nicely decorated restaurant. The owner told us that the restaurant had been there over 30 years and we understood why.
We have been there a dozen of times as lived round the corner for a year....and even now when we are far away, we keep going back from time to time. Good food, very nice owner, quiet and relaxed atmosphere, rarely noisy/busy, very local. I have a Chinese partner and she appreciated the restaurant a lot. We have a set of things we always take and they are always great: Nem de porc Poulet de chef Poisson a vapeur Canard cantonnais Legumes chinois
