This was across the street from our hotel and we swung by one afternoon since we had noticed they serve tofu, something I appreciated as a vegetarian. They offer an English menu with a variety of options which you could get with either noodles (maybe in soup? we skipped this since the broth probably wasn't vegetarian) or rice. The staff person was very nice, we were served free cold green tea, and the food was tasty and came very quickly. It was fairly inexpensive, I think around 700 per person.
When I sat down and broke apart my hashi (chopsticks) they shattered completely unevenly and ended up lopsided on one end and a jagged point on the other. I should have taken that as a sign and left. In my experience one can tell a lot about a restaurant by the quality of the hashi they supply. I ordered the beef udon and was surprised at how fishy it was. I know most if not all udon has dashi in it but this place went overboard. It tasted like a fish soup. Maybe you like fish, if so then you'll like it just fine. I however don't like fish and merely tolerate the dashi for sake sake of delicious udon and other dishes. The udon itself was not delicious. As I mentioned earlier I ordered the beef udon, there was very little beef in it and the largest piece was a big chunk of nothing but fat. Also the noodles were thinner than I am used to and for some reason there was miso in it. Maybe it's a Kyoto thing? My gf ordered some miso soup, it was also overly fishy. The pricing was good assuming it has food you want to eat. I won't be going back.
