Baan Ampur is a sea-food restaurant frequented by locals and the Ramkhamhaeng location is too far for foreign visitors. Good news. The restaurant recently opened a branch in the city, located on first floor of Boss Tower on Rama 4 Road, 500 meters down the street from Big C Rama 4 branch. Tel. 02 661 3170 ext. 3111. If you are in Sukhumvit area, take BTS train to Ekamai station, take a Big C or Tesco Lotus shuttle, get off at the store, and walk with outbound traffic for half a kilometer toward Boss Tower. Do not be put off by the restaurant décor and the waitress' reception. The waitresses may seem un-attentive; they leave patrons alone out of respect for their privacy. You just have to call their attention if you need anything. We found the food at the Rama 4 branch delicious. We ordered their specialties: soft-shell river prawns sautéed in sweet tamarind sauce; fried cabbage with salted flat fish; 10 charcoal grilled scallops; and pla-too (local fish) in lemon soup. The check came to $30. We will go back for other items on the menu.
