I was wondering if i was taking a risk going there seeing all the inconsistent reviews. I am never interested in seafood platter unless am in France. I went there to eat oysters and I wasn't disappointed, excellent selection, I was very happy to find the "wild" oysters and some very plum fine de clair. We had few other dishes which were nice. So overall experience was very nice, the service was ok in general, the restaurant is nice and cosy. Only two remarks about the place, the spoon for the shallot vinegar does fit the small dish, so its pointless to have it and the music could be somehow nicer. I want to comment on all the reviews that claim it is an expensive place. I do not agree, when it come to oysters, the quality, the source and the freshness is the key. I would rather pay a little bit more to get top product. So I believe the raw bar is all about quality, and you pay for it. I am not saying it is cheap to eat there, am saying that if you want to really enjoy oysters then you d rather indulge less often, but when you do, do it at the right place.
The restuarant is smaller than one shophouse in the middle of Sukumvit 55. Elegantly decorated. They offer great foods. But I can only honestly recommend Canadian Lobsters because I have been busy with these lobsters during my last few visits without any opportunity to move on to oyster et al yet. One small note: it seems to us that their kitchen is small. If your party is big, the dishes will slowly come out one by one. (It happened to us before) My advice is do not wait for everyone to have their respective dishes before start eating. Work on your dish while it is hot. Even with a small party we go there early in the eve before other guests start moving in. One more thing, parking may be tricky. Better to do taxi or uber.
I spend a lot of time in Maine. I love lobster and thought Red's Eats in Wiscasset was as good as it gets. But the Raw Bar sets a new standard. No packaged hot dog rolls here. The brioche is home made and the butter is imported from France. Now I'm spoiled and nothing else will do. Please build one in Maine so you can show 'em how it should be done!
