Entrance is from the inside of the shopping mall which is within reasonable walking distance from Ekkamai BTS. They know their market. It is smaller than the branch we are used to in Central Festival and closes an hour earlier at 10pm which caught us out. We arrived just after 9pm and were advised of the earlier closing and if we wanted to still eat given that we were not going to get the full 1.5 hour. As we were hungry and this was our intended port of call we said "yes". There were about 8 other patrons and food on the conyevor belt was scarce but not to worry as they are prepared for such circumstances as a member of staff brought a board and we were able to select from it what and how many we wanted. We ate and enjoyed our meal. From memory I think although we didnt ask, when we came to pay we had been charged a fraction less due to only having the single hour.
Shabu shi is located in the Gateway Mall, which is right at the Ekkami station of the BTS Skytrain. You can access the mall directly from the station platform. Shabu shi is on the ground floor. You can sit at tables or at the the counter. For 359 baht you can eat for one and half hours. You have your own pot of boiling water, and you pick what you want from the conveyor belt, which passes by infront of you. There is meat, fish, shrimp, vegetables, noodles, etc. You cook the food yourself. There is also a counter with sushi like food, rice rolls, fruits, tempura, and a counter for ice cream and drinks. It is pretty much a self serve environment. Servers can fill your pots with water as you use it, and of course they replenishing the plates passing by. It is a popular dining option in Thailand so you may find it busy during lunch and dinner. Taking a number is common. Not for all tastes, but you may want to experience it.
The restaurant is an all you can eat hot-pot location. I found it to be pretty expensive (~1000 baht for two) for what we received. Apparently there is a membership you can buy to get discounts. After my experience at this location, I will never return. The ingredients travel around the restaurant on a conveyer belt systems similar to some restaurants in Japan. Unlike Japan, the ingredients did not look or taste fresh. There really was nothing exciting/new/unique about the restaurant. No bottled water, only a water fountain dispenser. Not a safe option for farang. The staff seemed more interested in carrying conversations or checking their phones than actually doing their jobs. On the plus side, it was clean.
