When i walked in, alarm bells were already ringing but since i had made a reservation, there was no turning back. The place was completely empty at peak dinner-time. The servers were very polite and attentive, but it turned out to be fueled by a vague sense of desperation as hardly any other customers turned out the entire night, and i soon found out why. My companion had a tomato-based pasta with soup and dessert set, and i had a 12" pepperoni pizza. The pasta came soon, along with an apologetic warning that the pizza would take a while because it was being prepared a la minute. "Made to order? That's a good sign!" I thought. Meanwhile, the pasta was dry and stiff, the sauce uninspired, and the toppings skimpy. The accompanying soup was served in a tiny bowl just barely heated. We were hopeful for the pizza to save the day. Alas, that was too much to ask for. Despite taking more than 40 minutes in total, which should have been enough even to toss the crust from scratch, the pizza came out very dry and hard (it must be a trend), over-baked to the point of being burnt (which i'm usually fine with if the pizza itself is fresh and supple), and with similarly scant and dry toppings. The tiramisu was pitifully small and leaning harder than the famous tower in its country of origin. Oliva gets one extra star only for the apologetic and eager service staff.
I experienced good service from this waitress but I did not get her name. We ordered seafood pasta was bland, pizza was ok not bad and tiramisu was quite good with generous amt of alcohol. Atmosphere is quite nice if only they served better food and wines. They served wines which made in Malaysia for $38 which is quite expensive and the problem is the wines are not drinkable. I ordered a beer after that and it was a safer choice. Total bill came up to almost a hundred even after 25% discount for two diners so its not worth it for what we have ordered. Overall experience is I won't go back again and I won't recommend anyone there.
We went to Oliva to celebrate a colleague's birthday. Despite making a reservation, they had us wait and had to move some folks who were eating to make place for us. Once we'd ordered, the food took forever to arrive. A few of us got the set Lasagne (Vegetarian/Cream sauce) and Pasta (Chicken and Asparagus-Mushroom respectively) lunches. The soup was like baby food - no flavour, no texture. The lasagnes and pastas were awful. We had to send the lasagne back because it was drowning in oil. They did replace it with a vegetarian pasta but by then the damage was done. Folks who ordered sandwiches (Meatball, Vegetable, Salmon) weren't very happy either. All 10 of us had leftover food on our plates, not because portion sizes were big but because the food was downright awful. All of us agreed that the Cokes & Sprites were the best part of the meal! The service was friendly and the decor, decent, but nothing in there could've made up the food. A definite diss.
