Have eaten here a few times when we've been staying at the Harbour Grand hotel just up the road. It's a popular choice for locals and booking is recommended unless you go early. I love the deep fried chicken in pandanus leaf as a starter and the yellow chicken curry is mild, creamy and delicious. One of our group is allergic to nuts and the waitress was happy to ensure that the pad thai was nut free.
I spend an inordinate amount of time in Hong Kong and 99% of it is spent in TST and Hunghom. My daily walk to work, weather permitting, takes me through the heart of Hunghom and/or along the water. Either way I usually walk past the Whampoa Garden area. People familiar with the area will recognize that Sweet Basil is close to an Iconic American brand, Outback. That said, and having walked by this restaurant a number of times, maybe 50, I finally tried it on my last trip. 4 of us went in for lunch. The service was what I've come to expect in HK and the staff was largely Thai. Very friendly, attentive and fun. The food was served in coursed and we tried three staples of the Thai experience and then did something very different. All four courses were very, very good. When I'm back in January I plan on trying their take out to take back to my hotel. This is very convenient place to eat and it's GOOD.
