Booked for High Tea for my Lovely wife's Birthday with family. One of the party failed to turn up and we asked the waitress to get the food underway after about 10 minutes of being seated. After another hour we had to ask again as everyone else was being served and they arrived after we did. When we asked for the supervisor to talk to she was very smarmy, condescending, and did not take any responsibility for the delay nor do anything to placate us. This REALLY detracted from what was supposed to be a lovely relaxing birthday experience. We left disappointed as this was not what we had come to expect from the Christchurch Casino.
This was a lovely wee treat for my friend and I. The service was amazing, friendly, polite and regular attention. The high tea was absolutely devine! Full of amazing flavors and variety. The price was reasonable, especially for a high tea. We left feeling surprisingly full. Definately recommend and will be back.
We are regular diner's at the Grand Cafe..we find staff service excellent and enjoy a very good standard of food. Steve and I, and two special mother's were very impressed with this Mother's Day treat..as were many other happy Mum's..as the restaurant was full. The talented Pastry chefs were in the background making sure the supply of deliciousness was continually replenished. Highlights for me were the blue cheese and pear on rye sami's,(great combo) tiny salmon tarts, savoury pastries, and mini samosa's. Sweet treats were so bountiful..and included lime, berry and citrus topped delites,, profiteroles with choccy filling, creme brulee and lemon meringue ..all delicious and bite sized. This was an exceptional buffet and I congratulate all staff involved.
For $38 I expect a nice main but the steaks we received were very ordinary and came with no salad or veges (they were extra). We left feeling like we'd had a greasy fry up. On a Friday night the restaurant was only about half full and now I know why. Only redeeming feature was the friendly staff.
