So i chanced upon this small restaurant along Katong and decided I had a Japanese cravings to satisfy. My partner and I ordered quite a number of dishes ranging from beef, chicken, prawns, udon and garlic fried rice. Portions was (as yakitori suggests) small and did not justify the hefty price paid. I have had yakitori all over the island and never were the portions this tiny, taste was also average. Not ordering drinks, we spent a good $80++ and left feeling disappointed. Waitresses were friendly though, even though they were dressed a little too little and that made the place looks slightly dodgy from the outside ;p
Unfortunately, I can't say that experience at this place was good..... it was ok the first 2 times but sadly, it definitely is not anymore We bought a bottle of Shochu a couple of months back and they told us it is valid for 3 months (tonight when i went back, they kept insisting 2 months only) 3 months was up and we went back to see whether there was a chance we could take out the bottle, they said no, but not to worry, they will keep it for us. We were thinking, nice and good service! Thumbs up! Went back again and they requested us to finish the bottle, if possible by end of the month. We said we will definitely try. They also asked for our contact number, so they could contact us as they could not do so before. We wrote it down on the bottle before we left that night. Today, we went back and the bottle is gone! Imagine our shock and disappointment! They said it was over 3 months and it was discarded. When questioned why they did not call, they mentioned they did not have our contacts. Erhm.... why was there a request to indicate our contact number the last time we were there? the staff even checked with us whether we indicated our number before we left. In addition, what happened to "not too worry, we will keep it for you", as mentioned previously? Make matters worse, Manager Rita was extremely hard to talk too. She gave us a call but did not allow us to explain our understanding of situation, often cutting us off. We asked if we could continue our story first, but, she just continued on. Had to wait for her to finish and ask again whether we could explain, without interruptions, before she agreed. =( Needless to say, we can't say this is a place we are comfortable going back again even with 2 glasses of Shochu, she decided to offer. Of course, offer only came when we gave up trying to discuss and mentioned that we did not think anything will be resolved as she is not keen to resolve the situation or look at any replacement. To Manager Reka, it was a miscommunica
This place has changed name I suppose to Q-Wa Bar and Yakitori. Purchased an online voucher to this place and went there. Live around the area and had walked past it many times and the décor looks very Japanese. Price wise was considered steep for its standards. Yakitori: non-authentic, sauce was on the chicken gizzards and the taste just wasn't Barbequed enough. Fried Ebi (shrimp): Tiny shrimps, even my pet fish will think they are too small. Chicken Karaage: More flour than meat, ANY restaurant which serve chicken karaage in Japan would taste 10X better than here. Service: General service was OK to be fair. But please for goodness sake, its a Japanese restaurant, should disallow staff to speak mandarin and assume all Asian looking people are Chinese. Without even speaking a word of English, the waitress spoke to my wife (who is Japanese) in Mandarin. I could understand if this was just a hawker centre of any other bar. But it is selling itself as a JAPANES RESTAURANT. Lastly, staff didn't explain to me the bill properly but then again I could have been too tired to have noticed any explanation. Could be my fault at that. Beers: Asahi on Tap which is good, Happy hour prices are ok but isn't cheap for the non-happy hour prices
