Was finish shopping at Stadium, and wanted to eat dinner before we go home. Decided to eat at Strait Express, which we had tried before. Express? Got our beer and juice after quite a long time. It was promotion on beer, 2 for S$ 10. WOW !! And me as a decent beer drinking Norwegian with pure blood lines to the Vikings, I jumped into that offer like a kid I'm a candy store! Glass?? of beer, was same size as the we put egg in on the Sunday breakfast table in Norway. First disappointment. One zip, glass down, next glass please .. Then we waited for the food, and our plate of grilled chicken arrived, which was the order my wife wanted .Second disappointment, it was more cooked than grilled and my wife did not like it at all. But my grandmother always told me to finish all food, so I did that. After all Norwegian eats anything, whale, sheepshead, rotten salmon (gravalaks), so a cooked/ fried chicken was for me just something to fill up the stomach with while I was scouting for my order. My order never showed up, and it was a f_ _ _ ing simple Club sandwich! I am a patient person, with a practical common sense, and in my world you serve dinner to both persons at same time. Not one by one and you finish that one and edit another 10 min before my blood start boiling and patient is over! So I told them to bring the bill and forget about the Sandwich, which they did. They even brought a egg glass of beer again, thinking that was my second one. I told them that it was not mine, I already had two for the price of S$ 10, even if I love beer I am honest and fair. Confused as a headless chicken is the impression I am left with. Any excuses, or apologize?? Not a single word was said. We left and will never stop by again. Totally useless service, stay clear and enjoy your dinner somewhere else guys! Ronny
Great Peranakan food in an unpretentious restaurant with prompt service. Our favourites were the Babi pongtay, beef rendang, Nyonya chap chye, ayam buah keluak and terong goreng. The bak kut teh has a strong herbal base with delicious meat balls and pork ribs. The Penang blachan fried rice was very fragrant. Price was reasonable and good value for money.
Stopped by to try the Penang Assam Laksa while waiting for my kid. I must say the assam laksa is good and similar to those served in Penang. The soup has the tangy sour taste that was expected without being spicy. It has a good mix of vegetables and fish. The soup does not taste diluted. Although I would have preferred it to be richer with more fish, like the one in Penang. All in all, a good bowl of Penang Assam Laksa.
We had lunch there last Sunday. The menu was just wonderful. We had a choice of street food from Penang, nyonya food from Malacca and all types of Singapore food. It was a grand experience going through the menu. Everyone was spoilt by the choices available. We had acar, egg-plant, nyonya chicken, pork pongtey, meat ball soup, fried koayteow, braised ox tail and different types of drinks and ice-cream. The taste was just right and neither too salty nor salty. The price? It was just reasonable. I will sure be there again.
