Food here is very good but the service is atrocious. Atmosphere is very nice and menu selection is extensive. If they could just get some staff that could pay attention to their customers I think that would have a winning combination.
Went to Café Bateel for lunch with a colleague. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Ordered their Chicken Fuseli in the labneh sauce. highly recommend that dish, its one of their best sellers. The labenh is more of light creamy sauce, not the sour labneh taste one might expect. I must say, the service was very slow. The staff seemed confused at times and rushed. Nonetheless, great place for lunch. Good value and great food!
Pros: - good food (e.g. tenderloin steak was cooked well and high quality, lovely sauce; asparagus side was very good) - swift, professional service. no issues with getting extra sauces (no charge) etc. - nice outdoor terrace - reasonable prices AED 50-60 ($13-16) for salads and sandwiches, AED 90-100 ($25-27) for pretty gourmet mains - a lot better than Mandaloun in terms of quality and value for money (Mandaloun is the other main restaurant near the Gate building) Cons: - AED 18 ($5) for sparkling water seemed a bit high but fine
I went to Cafe Bateel for a lunch meeting today. The food was fine, but my colleague, when paying the bill, was asked explicitly if he wanted to put a tip on his credit card. I find this pretty unusual, as people will usually either leave a card tip or a cash tip at their discretion. There is no need for pressure from the staff. Still, the food was good and reasonable value.
