I must admit before I start that we've had a few lovely meals here. Unfortunately Sunday was a bit of a disaster. I thought maybe the waiter was new, who knows. We went for Sunday lunch at around 14:30. The restaurant wasn't really busy. We waited more than an hour for our sushi, and when it arrived the tempure praws were ice cold. I'm sure the waiter forgot to bring us our food, after serving the hot meals at our table. My husband and brother-in-law was already finished with their meal. We had to ask where our food was before it was served. I'm not usually one to complain about cold food, but this tasted awefull. They heated it up for me, but then it was completely oily and really gross. This was without a doubt the worst tempura prawns I've ever had. I was really unhappy that I actually had to pay for it. The rest of the food was lovely as usual. Just sad that we had to wait so long for everything (drinks as well).
I went there with high expectations, as my one son and his friends frequents the place. We were seeted on the mezanine, not a good place... Also, our table was next to the toilets... Our waiter must have been brand new, as he knew nothing of the menu. I asked for something nice, but non-alchol, that would flush down a very big thirst. He suggested a 'Steel Worx' and I decided to trust his suggestion. First mistake, My wife was happy with her drink. We then decided to order our meal and after quite a study, my wife finally found a chicken salad that sounded like what she was craving for. I showed the waiter what I wanted and my choice was a steak and calamari combo. After an extensive amount of time, our food eventually arrived. The steak was small and looked even smaller on the gigantic plate, I had a minute helping of veggies and four relative small tubes of calamari and some premature baby calamari as well as a slice of lemon. Everything on my plate was delicious but by far to little for the R150 price tag on the menu. My wife's food looked like a food game. Hide and seek in the woods... Salad it was! Leaves for Africa! The meat was a different scenario altogether, Five or six minute strips,,, Then a lady manager appeared from somewhere to ask if we were happy with our food, We complained about the quantity and she promised to get my wife more meat. She never came back... Eventually our waiter re-appeared and I told him what transpired in his absence. He then offered to call the owner, Pieter. When Pieter came, we explained the situation. He asked me if I ordered one of the R69 specials which I denied. He then lost interest in my order but aked my wife a couple of questions regarding her food, then took her plate and disappeared to the kitchen. When he returned, he had a fresh chicken salad, exquisitely prepared and deliciously looking. He asked if the first also had the same appearance, and we said no. This time the salad tasted the way it looked and there was am
I had lunch at O'Galitos Montana on Saturday 9 Jan 2016. From the start, the service I got from Matthew was excellent! Thank you Matthew. I ordered the hake and calamari 'lunch special', and my, what an experience. The fish (an ample portion..) was done to perfection (grilled) and the calamari came in a sauce with paprika, which was very tasty. I got some squid heads with it, and it was good too. I was delighted that the salad had a nice mix of salad leaf and not just iceberg lettuce. The coffee was very good as well. Excellent value for money.
