We tried many areas known for their street food including the area by Gurney Plaza, along Jalan Penang and its side roads, and other suggested locals. The Teluk Bayan Food Court was by far the best food we had while on Penang. There were oodles of choices but we settled on clay pot rice (5 RM for a pot of rice with dried sausage, pork, egg, and other goodies) and cook-your-own skewers. The latter had tables with boiling water pots lowered in the middle of the them and seven unique and delicious sauces. After choosing our skewers (and there are about 40 varieties to choose from) the proprietor showed us how to cook them, suggested cook times, and arranged the sauces in order from hottest to mildest. We went for more, and more, and more. Each skewer ranges in price from 1 RM to 2.50 RM. Such a great place!
