I came to Chè - Tàu Hủ Nguyên's at he suggestion of a local Vietnamese friend and felt compelled to write this review: Chè - Tàu Hủ Nguyên's (translation: purity, origin, etc.) is a discreet dessert restaurant on the way to the Saigon train station and is an authentic experience not to be missed. The proprietor and chef, Miss Hiep (approximately pronounced 'Hip'), prepares tofu fresh every morning in her family kitchen and you can taste the difference. As an experienced tofu taster with a discerning tongue, this tofu is most certainly fresh. TAU HU (app. pron. 'Toe Hoo') is such a delight: fresh tofu richly layered in ginger and coconut milk and served warm or iced in a light syrup made from raw sugar. Hiep makes a point of using all natural and mostly organic ingredients sourced in Vietnam- it's the restaurant's mission to provide clean and healthy fare to the customer. CHE is a fairly common dessert that one should seek out anywhere in Ho Chi Minh, but the Tau Hu is not very common and locals are giving very positive reviews on foody.vn :) I highly recommend any traveler in Ho Chi Minh City allow time for a respite from museums and Pham Ngu Lao to experience a different side of true Vietnam in this quiet dessert restaurant. The restaurant is a short taxi ride from Pham ngu lao, and fairly nearby the sights in D. 1. Take Vinasun or Mai linh taxi to get the best rate. Chè - Tàu Hủ Nguyên's so ngon (so delicious)!
