My second favorite Thai dish in the whole world is Neua Nam Tok, literally translated as Waterfall Beef. Thai Garden serves a pork variation called Moo Nam Tok, and it is just as good as any beef version that I have had. And with rice, it only cost me about $4. A great deal in a great setting with very friendly service. I will definitely be back to try the other dishes, like their larb. They are down an alley off Chaweng's main drag, behind The Islander restaurant. They share a space with a Mexican restaurant called Gringo Cantina, which as some pretty good nachos, by the way.
We came across Thai Garden whilst trying to escape the tourist traps on the Main Street and boy were we glad we did. Tucked down a soi near The Islander it serves authentic Isaan, Thai and I believe Mexican cuisine. We opted for a pork salad and a som tam and asked for them led Mac - spicy. They did not let us down! Both were freshly made in our view and were bursting with flavours of Northern Thailand. A plate of steamed rice and unknown vegetables accompanied the dishes. With a couple of beers each the meal was less than £10 and of a very high standard.
