Me and my family, we celebrated many of our precious time in Le Maximilien, and we've never been disappointed. Just a day before Easter, we were there to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary, as usual the manager was greeting us friendly and the sommelier was generous on serving the wine. The food was just perfect! Chef of Le Maximilien is very good in seafood, and the main course with lamb was just perfect matching the date Easter! With luck we could have the dessert on the terrace enjoying the sunshine and vineyard, it was really a good time. We've already booked our next visit, looking forward for their summer menu!
We celebrated my husbands birthday in this restaurant and we were very disappointed. The first course was over salted, and my main course was just not good. The lighting throughout the restaurant is very cold, which makes for a very unpleasant atmosphere. The food is way over priced for what it is.
I liked everything about Le Maximilien. First of all the setting - such a beautiful place right along the vineyards and a friendly tasteful dining room. The service was just right - present when you wanted it and absent otherwise. The food was great - surprising, varied and beautiful. A couple of weeks before we ate at a Michelin 3 stares restaurant - we payed almost three times as much and enjoyed it half as much.
We were spoilt and ate at 3 Michelin Star restaurants during our seven day stay in Alsace - JYS (Colmar), La Table du Gormet (Riquewihr) and Le Maximilien. On all occasions, as you would expect, the meals were beautifully cooked and well presented (obviously a huge amount of work goes into preparing these meals), the restaurants were ambient, the service on each occasion was very good and we enjoyed choosing local wines from the wine lists. These restaurants are expensive but you should know that before you choose to go and in my opinion all three restaurants provided good value for the money. The Grand Cru Rieslings that we drank in my opinion were exceptionally good value. Le Maximilien was our favourite experience. It had a slightly more relaxed feel than the other restaurants and the setting overlooking the vineyards was particularly attractive to us. Although sitting inside, as it was too cool to dine on the terrace, the large full length windows allowed the natural sunlight in and we could enjoy the view long into the evening - a treat for us as it gets dark much earlier where we live.
