The gourmet burgers are anything but... $17 dollars for an over sauced, under seasoned burger with overly deep fried potato wedges. I have eaten burgers at Savoy twice and I can not understand why the Savoy has won best burger for the past 2 years. Seriously you guys need to do some serious training in the kitchen. Blind Tiger, Tony Romas, Cousins and even Harley's do better burgers than Savoy.
After a week in Myanmar where we tried all kinds of local food including a lunch at the Strand before it closes for renovation, we had a wonderful dinner at this restaurant before flying back to Tokyo. Seated with a view on Shwedagon pagoda, we had their lemongrass chicken and sea bass curry which were very artfully presented in their bowl plates, and a wonderfully tasty passion fruit tiramisu. Accompanied by a Chili Los Vascos red wine, it was the most succulent meal we had during that wonderful week in Myanmar. Service is attentive and we were lucky to be almost alone that night. To top it all: prices are reasonable for this class of hotel.
Apart from being a beautiful dining space on the 1st floor of the savoy hotel, the menu features two local traditional starters and mains. I ordered the rice noodles with pumpkin (in a delicious curry broth) and then the fried rice for main dressed up with lovely rounds of what seemed like Japanese tofu, river prawn tempura, pickled vegetables and confit of baby shallot. All delicious. Also good opportunity to sample the local wines.....they are surprisingly excellent.
