A traditional Bolognese restaurant offering a wide selection of local and other Italian dishes. Food is quite good. Waiters are old school professionals. Restaurant is set on bologna's most beautiful piazza, Santo Stefano. In summer a table outside is a very pleasant experience. Not the cheapest, but nothing extraordinary.
The food will blow you away. The service will make you seek therapy. Its not bad service, really. Its efficient and available. There is just no joy there. They are not going to fawn over you and they may not even smile at you. But the food. Oh my, the food! The food may just make you forgive all. We tried to stay with the dishes that they point out on the menu as being local specialties. Do not miss the Tortellini alla Panna. This dish is so delicious you will swoon. Its very creamy and this type of thing can be really heavy but somehow here it was light as air and find myself daydreaming about it from time to time. I can also give a definite thumbs up to the Fior Di Zucca Fritti. The table next to us were well heeled and well travelled and they commented that the risotto was the best they had ever had. We didn't have it but everything we did have was fabulous. The décor is really nice without being stuffy. The waiters were efficient and I cant really fault the service if they could just have a little fun. If the staff weren't so unhappy this place would get 5 stars and everyone would want to eat here. We will return to Bologna and we will definitely go here again for the great food and hope the mourning is over.
If you are looking for a typical Italian restaurant serving traditional bolognese food then this is the restaurant to be. The grilled beef was very tender and tasty, however if you like truffle then try the grilled pork cutlet stuffed with porcini mushrooms, truffle, ham and cheese..... Divine. If you want potatoes on the side you have to order them as an extra. The service was very good too.
This restaurant was suggested to us by our hotel and when we passed it on a walking tour of the city we decided to try it. It is expensive but the dining is formal and the food delicious. The menu is almost too large, too much choice, but there are plenty of local dishes amongst the choices. Everyone spoke English and were mostly welcoming but one or two of the waiters were a little brusque. My wife had tortellini in cream sauce which were nice but not exceptional for Bologna, her grilled scampi though were very good if you like it presented in the shells (her favourite). I started with taglioline and mixed shellfish which was really delicious. I had stuffed pork steak to follow. Definitely a formal dining experience. Overall very good.
