I just had lunch at Lena's. It was a beautiful, warm, breezy date in Potsdam and the patio (with large umbrellas) was a great place to spend an hour or so. I had a Bulgarian beer (a first) and the sampler platter, which included a small salad, a paprika pepper stuffed with cheese, a delicious piece of grilled, marinaded chicken, and a battered and deep-fried ground beef kabob. But best of all was the Bulgarian "catsup," which is far superior to the American version. The servers have passable English and were friendly. However, the kitchen is a bit slow, even at lunch when there were only six other customers. The patio is a bit noisy since the restaurant faces a busy street.
This small restaurant is bursting with character. The food is super tasty and very reasonably priced. Lots of small details such as the beautiful plates the food is served on and the wonderful artwork really make this place special.
It's no coincidence that I visited this restaurant. I was invited for a dinner to the restaurant which carry the same name as I. It was wonderful experience. I never ate Bulgarian food before and I was amazed. Very delicious and even healthy. I loved it. Also the hospitality and service provide by owners of restaurant was perfect. I felt here like at home.
This was our first Bulgarian restaurant and we were delighted. The owners (Lena & Bernd) do everything, are very friendly and Lena's food is exquisite. The place is small, full of typical Bulgarian pieces of artcraft work (the paintings are by Lena), resulting in a very cosy ambiance. You pay a good price for an excellent meal, served in typical pottery. Enjoy your stay with Bulgarian hospitality.
