Had my eye on this place for a while, but never been able to go since they are closed on Sunday when I tend to eat out more. So, I came here on a Tuesday after work (around 6PM) to grab some pizza. The restaurant is fairly small and the bartender was working both the bar and the tables, so the service was a bit slow as a result. I ordered some fried calamari (which was served with sort of a horseradish vinaigrette) and a large pie with pepperoni, onions and a mushrooms. The calamari was fine, though it would have used a bit more seasoning. As advertised by the restaurant, the pies are more or less NY Style, and it was not bad at all, but there are better in town (such as Wiseguy or The Italian Store in Arlington, VA). I'd say it is probably on par with Fuel (another local joint). If I were in the area and hankering for a pizza, I might stop by again, but there's a some competition in the Colombia Heights area from Pete's and Red Rocks. As others have mentioned, the food is a bit overpriced for what it is.
When we first moved to the neighborhood, Radius was a great experience. Wonderful, innovative pizza careful presentations, great service. Last night's experience was far from that. Only one server who spent five minutes chatting with the bar tender rather ignoring our readiness to order. Arugula salad used to be a really great presentation of pecans, pears, and gorgonzola. Last night's was a hack job; rather than delicate slivers of pears, ample pecans and crumbled gorgonzola, what we got was a few thick slices of unripe pear, a couple of nuts and a few small cubes of cheap gorgonzola. Our pizza was good but not as fab as it used to be. Wine was good and well-priced. Not tempted to go back any time soon. Seemed to think part of his job was to comment on my husbands
We used to frequent this joint when we lived in the hood (Mt Pleasant). Always good quality and they somehow manage to produce that crispy/chewy crust that makes their pizza so delectable. We were visiting a friend this time and ordered delivery. Everything was very good (2 pizzas with a variety of toppings and Caesar salad), but not quite as good as we remembered. Quality would likely be exceptional if enjoyed in the restaurant--hot from the oven! To sum it up: certainly better than average pizza, but costly and best enjoyed hot from the oven (not take-out or delivery).
Four of us dined here on Monday night. For my wife and I. it was our first time. For my son and his friend, they come here often as it is a 5 minute walk from their apartment. This is a very friendly neighborhood place with full bar service. My son and I started with Sazerac cocktails, very well made, but tiny for $10.00. No value there. Other beverages are offered like interesting sodas, wine, beer, etc. Pizzas are the stars here. They come in 2 sizes - a medium 15" and a large 18". The mediums run $20 or so and the large about $4-5 more so they are on the pricey side . The pizza menu is interesting and has some very creative choices. I noted that Radius makes their own sausage and meatballs - I love house-made items!! We had a meatball/black olive and a pizza with lots of veggies - both were delicious and 2 mediums were good for 4 persons with no leftovers. It was a good restaurant, cool atmosphere, great owner, and definitely would go back for another spin.
