A real family operation! One of the neighbors sent us up, but you can also call if you need buzzed in. Everyone sits around a long folding table in the same room as the kitchen. You can watch the cooks at work creating tacos, tostadas, quesadillas, and tamales, and they are right there to answer any questions. I was impressed with the selection. (My favorite taco was the beef and cactus.) The aguas frescas are great. Everyone is friendly and it's a lot of fun! It reminded me of some small restaurants that I visited in Guatemala years ago. Go for the unique experience and the food. Cash only and first come, first served.
We found this place through the Yelp. 2 Mexican ladies from Oaxaca cook for guests in their own home kitchen. It's open on weekends from 7 am to 7 pm. When you arrive there you have to call (202) 265-0243 and they'll welcome you. This place is very popular among locals. The food is delicious. I highly recommend the goat stew soup ($12). The goat meat is cooked for several hours and the broth is very rich. The tacos ($3) are also delicious. They have several types of sauce to put on top. The guacamole one was terrific, very fresh and full of flavor. Cash only.
