I have had brunch and dinner here on several occasions and could not be happier with the food, wine and service. The décor is warm and inviting. The staff knowledgable and polite. I will definitely return!
We met out of town guests staying nearby for dinner on a recent Friday night. The neighborhood (Glover Park) is quiet and friendly for its proximity to Georgetown and there are lots of interesting choices in the area. Slate was chosen on the recommendation of the Concierge at our friend's hotel, noting it was convenient, walkable (for our guests) and not likely to be too crowded. He was right on all three counts. At 7:30 we were the only guests for dinner - through the bar was doing a brisk business. The service was OK - waiter was a little slow and inexperienced with the menu - but the food was good, as noted. The portions were small (relatively) and the prices were about what you would expect for a weekend dinner in the city. Bottom line - nice place to stop in if you are in the area - Sunday brunch appears to be their specialty - but not worth a long drive if you are not.
We came here for a girls' night out and enjoyed a delicious meal with 2 delightful flights of wine. The waitstaff was very attentive and made satisfying suggestions. Portions were ample. I had the vegetable paella and it was rich and flavorful- one of the most satiating vegetarian dishes I have had in a restaurant. The ambiance is chic and attracts a fashionable crowd. It is intimate and relaxed. We will be back soon!
So I really didn't know what to expect in terms of food for Slate, when I based my visit on the wine list. Surprising enough, my breath was taken away with the food. The duck breast egg rolls was innovated and delicious. I love paellas, but I never had a Vegetable paella this amazing, I know no one does it better.
