We decided to try Lenny's as we were craving BBQ and heard about the place from a restaurant repair reality show and KTLA eatery review. It is located in a rural residential area of the valley. It sort of looks like a converted house. Smoke trailer in the front. We showed up and was greeted by a friendly waiter. I went to the washroom to wash my hands. The washroom was a bit dirty and the cleaning sheet on the door showed it was not cleaned for four days. Yuck. We found the menu somewhat limited compared to other BBQ joints, and the prices a bit on the high side. The side dishes were different than what you may find at other places, but mashed potatoes and gravy were there. Oddly a kale salad was there. Kale salad in a BBQ joint? Is this health food? My wife ordered the salmon for $18 and I ordered the each of baby back ribs for $28. I ordered iced tea which was watered down. The salmon arrived as a strip about 2 inches wide and 5 inches long. We considered this a small portion for the price. It tasted a little fishy even though it was grilled. The baby back ribs we're overcooked. Dry and tasted like ashes. I could not taste much of the meat or whiskey sauce. Needless to say we were disappointed. Clearly the issues that plagued this place were not all fixed with the reality show. The location is tough to find and not in s prime location, so to pull off this restaurant the food must be great. Plaques on the wall say this restaurant was voted best in LA. I could only think "voted by who?" There are tons of BBQ spots in the valley which are way better and better priced too.
Salmon eggs benedict, Smoked pork eggs benedict, Blueberry french toast, and Red velvet pancakes!!!! Major yum!!! Fantastic breakfast menu with a variety of choices. ****Update: New menu unvailed after this review*****
I grew up in the area and had been wanting to try Lenny's for some time. I saw some pictures of their weekend breakfast options, and they looked delicious, so my husband and I decided to go for our 1 year anniversary breakfast on a Sunday. When we arrvied, an employee in the parking lot who was handling the outdoor smoker greeted us, and we were seating by a lovely young lady quickly. The food was delicious -- I had the brioche breakfast sandwich and my husband had the deconstructed breakfast burrito. The portions were of great sizes, and the home fries were crispy and by far my favorite from any eatery. We'll definitely be back for dinner sometime soon!
This place is quaint and rustic on a country road in Chatsworth, CA. Great outdoor patio area and very friendly staff. That being said the price point demands more. $13 for 6 pieces of shrimp, $19 for Brisket and $18 for Salmon would not be bad however: My brisket came out half cold, half luke warm. I asked for barbecue suace which never came out.The salmon was properly prepared and tasted good. The restaurant had about 6 tables of customers, so not busy. This is a barbecue joint and we each got one small paper napkin wrapped around the silverware. The tables outside are plastic as are the chairs. A refil of water did not come until our meals were finished. Our waiter checked in on us to see how our bread was but never came back to check on the entre. They made an effort to bring the food out with a description orrated to us but it was bumpy at best. My assumption is with the really nice large patio area this is probably a good place to get beer and a barbecue sandwich. However with the least expensive entre being $18 they need to step up the game in attentiveness, food preparation and the accoutrements. Whereas the portions are good, staff friendly, the restaurant is clean. It would be a very easy fix to make this place worth the cost.
