An ultimate foodie I didn't plan by 2 weeks San Francisco vacation with my family without checking every new funky exciting and wonderful restaurant in town. I came across a tiny write up on Cafe Rx, The name stuck in my mind. We were sightseeing in the Presidio area and couldn't find parking and ended up in the THOREAU Center. This is a former hospital that San Francisco has intelligently converted into a series of offices for nonprofits centers in California. Imagine my surprise and excitement when I came across a large line to what I thought was a typical coffee shop and it turned out to be Cafe Rx !!! This is no coffee shop!!Rogelio Colindres, the owner, chef and chief bottle washer of this joint is a genius. His parents from El Salvador taught him humility, integrity, and the meaning of family and sharing a great healthy meal. A self-taught organic vegan chef, his dishes are so creative that they will rival anything from a Cordon Bleu trained chef. The selection of farm to table entrees are amazing in his many changes daily based on availability in quality of the food. His presentation is impeccable his combination of foodstuffs our inspiring and decadently delicious.He is quite personable and loves to share his cooking ideas and is open to suggestions from his patrons about things to feature in the future. This cafe has literally been taking hostage by the workers in the building who were none to happy to see strangers like us, having discovered their secret little food oasis. Rogelio only makes limited amount of food, since his cafe is sustainable business. since his family came from a country with food shortages he does not believe in throwing food away. Therefore get early so that you can partake of the wonderful selections for the day because once the gone they are gone and may not be repeated for months.
