First impressions matter greatly and what I noticed upon entering Shutters was the too-somber mood inside the restaurant. It's intimate, probably, but a little on the gloomy side. Lackluster ambience aside, I actually thought the food was good. I don't exactly remember the name of the dish I ordered but it involved a cut of a snapper fish and vongole sauce and it wasn't a disappointment. My husband ordered some chicken dish with potatoes and I thought it was okay, too. We actually liked the open kitchen concept as it was fun to watch the chef and kitchen staff in action. The staff was quite nice and attentive and we thought we were treated very well. Overall, I would say that Shutters is on the high side of average because of all the positives I've mentioned, but I feel that something can still be done about the ambience.
The staff are very kind to assist. When I got a bowl of porridge, the staff very kindly served me the spoon for it before I even realized I had forgotten. The food is quite nice as well. Although it may not have a great variety, the food tasted really nice.
Celebrated my wife's birthday at Shutters last Sunday evening, 31 Jan . First impression , ambience was kind of gloomy at the restaurant. Lighting was dim and dull. Ok fine tell myself it is the food that We were here for. While I admit the food was good but the service leaves little to be desired. Let me tell you why. We ordered a seafood pasta for our kids and they found to be spicy. Surprised that the waitress did not advise this when we ordered this item for the children. When we feedback to the waitress, she didn't even show concern or offer to take the dish back to the kitchen for a new one. Instead she simply asked what's wrong ?! So we had no choice but to order another pasta dish for kids. We then asked the waitress to quickly bring water for the kids and even that took a while . This led to another disastrous incident on my son. My 5 year old son couldn't bear the heat of the pasta , drank my wife's mocktail mojito. When I was billed , we realized they have actually served us an alcoholic mojito instead of a mocktail and my son has drank half of it!!!! We were so upset that we just want to quickly finish the meal and leave the restaurant immediately. With this experience of the restaurant, I too have doubts on the service level of the entire hotel. Staycation at this hotel? No way.
We went on New Year's Eve. They were having only buffet dinner or dessert buffet but was accommodating when we enquired for creme brulee ala carte. Kids got to pose with party hats and played with the party packs. They kindly waive corkage, maybe coz our own BYO was entry level that corkage cost is likely more than the sweet red we brought =p
