We ate our first and our last meals in Venice at Al Vecio Calice - lunch and dinner. For lunch we each had a pizza and wine. The pizza was good. For dinner, my wife had lasagna that she enjoyed and I had sea bream with grilled vegetables. The restaurant doesn't have carafes of house wine like many other local restaurants do so we split a bottle of wine. The one huge plus is that this restaurant doesn't charge copperto (1 - 3 Euro per person gouge that seems to exist only in Italy) nor seervice charge. The prices at this restaurant are very reasonable, lower than other restaurants in the neighborhood, and the food is very good. The location is excellent on Via Garibaldi with views of the lagoon.
No name on the outside as far as we could see, but it's on the wine glasses etc. Pizza 7 euros, we had sea bass and grilled vegetables, 16 euro -delicious and an absolute steal, washed down with Prosecco at 3 euro per glass!!! The day before we'd stopped just for Prosecco here and we were given a plate full of various chichetti! Great service, Menu is all in Italian and English, only Italians when we were there. Nice wide boulevard and a full view of the Giudecca. Only about 300m from St Marks, but a world away!
