We were searching for a typical Taverna and got invited from the staff to enter the restaurant and to take a seat. We have asked for fresh fish which was displayed at the window. Of course you will get it was the answer of the boss. So we sat down. We have ordered Tsatsiki, Octopus, Greek salad and fish fillet and a bottle of white wine. Then the boss has told us that he cannot offer bottles of wine! So we have received white wine out of a big plastic bottle! The octopus was swimming in oil and the Greek salad as we'll. Then the fish fillet arrived. It was not fresh but they have tried to keep it fresh for longer time and have put in in salt! So the fish came grilled almost black and dry because it was grilled too long! The taste was awful! Of course the waitress was unable to speak English! The mineral water was served in a small can. The ambience was simply bad and cheap! The bread was dry and old! Result: Service: 1 point Quality of food: 1 point Ambience: 1 point Price: 2 points Preparation of food: 1 point Not to forget: as a dessert you will get a complimentary apple from the house. At the end of the street you will find a much better restaurant when you cross the street!

While shopping in the Plaka, my husband did something we never do. We followed a man to a restaurant after he said, "Come to a restaurant with me. These on this street are too expensive. I will take you to a great inexpensive restaurant." He went in and ate there also, so we were not too apprehensive. We only wanted a light lunch, so I had a Greek salad and my husband had moussaka at the recommendation of the waiter. The food was delicious, but the service was even better. There seemed to be locals eating there. We got our food and more; the waiter poured me a glass of wine at no charge and at the end of the meal, we were given free fruit, and two shots of free "moonshine." We left the restaurant giggling and had a wonderful time shopping that day.
