Throw away every pre-conceived notion you have about casual, hotel lobby restaurants. SideBar was the best casual dining experiences I've had in a hotel. Took the family to the Sheraton Boston this past Saturday, and our room wasn't ready when we checked in. The boys were hungry, so we took the path of least resistance and just grabbed a table at SideBar (Just a few steps away from the registration desk). The casual decor and flat panel TVs created a casual impression you get when you see almost any hotel lobby lounge. But all of that changed as soon as we sat down. Our waitress, Diane, was as attuned to our needs as any service professional I've encountered at a Ritz-Carlton or Four Seasons. I'm not kidding. My wife has a black pepper allergy, and we're accustomed to the rolling eyes and burden special orders place on the kitchen. Not so at SideBar. Diane consulted with the chef and brought out my wife's lunch without complaint (Salad with grilled shrimp). Diane was so conscientious that she brought out special croutons for my wife because she wanted to make sure that there wasn't any pepper in the seasoning of their regular croutons (Thank you chef). Our boys ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup. When plated, the recipe calls for a few pieces of fresh basil to be placed on the top of the soup, but knowing the dishes were for kids, Diane brought it out on the side in a ramekin should the boys choose to use it. And the grilled cheese sandwiches themselves were pieces of art. Seemingly half pound of cheese in each one, oozing out the sides and melted to a crisp on the bottom. It was worthy of a photo shoot, and our boys claimed they were the best they'd ever had. Diane then asked my wife if her allergy included airborne exposure to pepper because someone three tables away wanted to use some(!). Her attention to detail and fixation on our service was beyond expectation. Don't think of SideBar as a typical lobby restaurant. Or go ahead and do that. Their sleeper
