Great place on main drag in U district. They make their own regular noodles (unsure about the gluten free ones.) We went several times on a trip and daughter attending school here soon will be going more, I am sure. I was super impressed when I ordered a ramen bowl and asked for the gluten free noodles, but the bowl I picked did not have a gluten free broth. (These are not marked on the menu--they could improve by noting which broth to choose for gluten free.) After ordering, the friendly waitress and the young chef came to check whether the gluten free noodle was a choice or an allergy, because the broth was not gluten free and they had noticed the choice of noodle. Not sure if this was just one particularly thoughtful and intelligent young (female) chef or a restaurant practice. I was so grateful for that because I would have picked the wrong broth (it didn't obviously have soy sauce in it....) In any event, the ginger vegan broth is fine, and they guided me to the ramen bowls with that broth. If they aren't busy they can make you -I would guess- any of the ramen bowls with the ginger broth and the gluten free noodles. They cooked the GF noodles separately, too. My vegetarian companion tried several bowls and loved them all, too. Also nice, hot edaname, and other dishes we didn't try but saw coming out looked fresh and good too. I so appreciated the gluten catch that I tipped a regular 20% on a $25 total bill, and give $5 extra to each the waitress and the chef. :)

I saw a deal on Amazon Local so we thought we'd give it a try because I still have a hard time going out for ramen. The deal helped ease the cost for a family of four. Still, the menu prices are the best we've seen so far at ramen houses. Menu: Lots of choices. We didn't get appetizers but there is a good selection. One of our sons got the Sumo Bowl which has rice instead of soup/noodles and looked really healthy. Our other son got a version of the tofu bowl which is usually spicy but they nixed the spice for us. This meant it wasn't marinated tofu. My husband got the Tonkatsu Ramen. I like that there are a few choices with chicken broth and that I could substitute chicken or tofu for pork. I did the former on the Shoyu Chicken Ramen. There are also vegetarian and vegan options. Service: Our server was friendly. She was concerned that my son wouldn't like his non-marinated tofu and checked up a few times. She ended up bringing a side of teriyaki sauce in case my son needed more flavor. Another person (male) was good with keeping our water cups filled. Location: We had no problem finding parking nearby on a Saturday night. This is a convenient location for students at UW because it's on the Ave between 41st & 42nd. It's definitely a step up from packaged ramen like I had when I was at the U, and the student specials are no doubt helpful for students on a budget. Dining Area: It seems to accommodate a decent number of tables. Lunchtime probably gets busy but we were there after 8pm on a Saturday night so it wasn't packed. The floors are exposed cement and the "seats" are an Asian style bench with no back. It's nothing fancy but not scary dirty like some restaurants I've been to on the Ave in times past. We'd probably visit again. My soup was very flavorful and the half-boiled egg gets me every time.
