In san fran it's hard to find a decent priced restaurant. This chinese food place was a great find. Free soup when you dine in and large portions. We spent $19 on 2 meals. We could have actually just shared one. The soup is hit or miss, miss for me, but a hit for my hubby. The main dishes were flavorful and really good. I had to pay an extra $1.50 for fried rice since my dish came with steamed rice. I would totally recommend this place to anyone in the union square area looking for Chinese. We will go back there when back in this area. The interior is extremely basic but who cares when the food is really good and cheaper than everywhere else.
We were staying in the area and had a craving for some asian food( well i did anyways). We had our kids with us so we were hesitant to go to a "nice" or expensive Chinese place, so we opted to try New Country. It looked pretty plain from the street sandwiched between a couple of higher end restaurants, and when we walked in, it looked like any other teriyaki restaurant I've ever eaten in. We ordered the pot stickers, egg rolls( which were actually spring rolls), cashew chicken, and the general tso's. The food showed up lightening fast, and was really good....the only thing I would change would be the General Tso's chicken, I wished it was spicier...My daughter loved it, but i like it hot...But aside from that, i would recommend this place to anyone in the area.
