Not recommended for a long drive just to taste Italian in a Desert. But its a good lace if one wants to have hot Italian in the midst of a Cold Desert . Price range is economic and ambience is good.
Nice atmosphere, good efficient and friendly service although a bit pushy, good, honest food, but I cannot understand restaurants who do not offer the option for local water and trap you in paying AED 36 / USD 10 for a 75cl bottle of Acqua Panna...! This is excessive and unfortunately has left a bad taste in our mouth of what would have otherwise been a pleasant experience.
Le Dune is an excellent if unassuming little pizzeria tucked away in folds of the beautiful Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa. It’s curators label it as a fusion of Italian and Arabic culture which, if you ask me, is taking the marketing blah blah a little too far – what it is, is a pizzeria in the desert. It’s actually more an all-round Italian restaurant which also serves pizza…in the desert. It never fails to amaze me how, where Italian food is concerned, our kids order exact the same thing wherever we go. Even our son, my hero of culinary adventure, only ever orders risotto. No surprises then that he ordered the Porcini Mushroom Risotto. My wife and I ordered a Pepperoni Pizza and Veal Cutlets Milanese to share while our young teenage daughter was only appeased after the patient manager assured her their Chicken/Mushroom Fettuccini was indeed the same Alfredo she loves. The food was all good but the service was better – actually it was excellent – warm, friendly, and super accommodating. I must admit that much of our satisfaction stemmed from the ‘happy, feel good’ buzz we had going as a result of our walk about the stunning Bab Al Shams grounds but let’s give credit where it’s due – these boys have a good thing going, their restaurant well worth a visit…even if you have to head out into the desert for it.
After traveling throughout India for several weeks we checked into Bab al Shams. The dinner at Le Dune was a very nice change. The food was very fresh and the servers were on point and ensured that food timing was spot on. The focaccia with olives and tomatoes was great. The bruschetta and vegetable soup was amazing. The pizza was good, fresh and hot, right out of the oven as it should.
Kids Unlimited… With authentic, wood-fired pizzas and hearty, home-style Italian fare, Le Dune Pizzeria opens its doors to kids under 12 for a complimentary meal. (Every Tue & Wed till 30th Sept.)
