The owner, waiter, Ricardo, is almost a one-man band, and he handles it well! The tiny restaurant seats, maybe 20 people and opens for evening meals at 7:15, a little earlier than most. He offers you fresh fish which he will bring to your table for you to see. If you don't want the olives and bread, which they will put on the table, kindly tell them or you will find them in your bill! The wine was good, the fish, which comes with salad and potato, was also very good. It's a good idea to reserve ahead if you want yo be sure of a seating! He was most accommodating and patient in explaining everything to us since we don't speak Portuguese! A good recommendation, especially if you go for the fresh fish which he will tell you "no bones". He boned it at our table. I would have no hesitation in recommending you go and visit Ricardo. He will make you feel at home.
The concierge at our hotel recommended this place, which was right around the corner. Upon arriving, we thought it was closed, because the door was locked. You have to ring the bell to get in! The owner, Ricardo, welcomed us warmly. He seated us among the few tables inside, and was happy to help us. His English was not great, but he tried his best. He is animated, friendly and takes great pride in his restaurant. He runs it with his wife, Ana, who is the chef. Because it's just the two of them, you have to be patient. It may take a while. (Ricardo may tell you, "I'm just one person!"). But it's well worth it. The food is homey, delicious and prepared with care. The fish was super fresh, grilled to perfection and deboned tableside. The desserts were great as well, especially the flan (pudding). We enjoyed our meal so much we cancelled our reservation at another more formal restaurant the next night and went back. It was consistent and great. Highly recommended!
In truth the food was quite good but the experience was spoilt by the extras! Olives and bread were supplied without being asked for so we assumed they were complimentary.Wrong! Then having asked for white wine a local wine was produced,no list,no choice,no mention of price. This was not our first meal in the locality so we thought ( erroneously) that we had a good idea of price. When the bill was presented the wine was charged at 29 euros and despite the owners protestation that it was a reserva it did not justify the price .And it was his choice not ours. We protested and it was removed from the bill. None the less it did not sit well with us.Future patrons should ask to see a list before they drink.
