We visited the Roo bar after meeting some friends earlier in the night and they suggested we visited for a couple of beers. First impressions might make you walk straight past, but please ignore your preconceptions and waltz on in, sit down and order an ice cold beer. OK, it's primarily a biker bar adorned in the colours of the local back patch HA but you will be made as welcome as any biker would ever be. Bike clubs in Thailand are nothing like those in the UK, USA or the rest of Europe, there is no attitude and they all pretty much get along. The lady who owns? Runs the bar is bubbly and friendly and will stop and chat whenever she has time.
I went here many times I'm recovering from a broken hip so was on the stick lady in charge of the music was very friendly as were other people there good beers good place to people watch and some nice barbecues
My favorite watering hole in Chiang Mai Roo Bar is a bar for people that love to ride big bikes and love to docialise with others that ride.On any given night you could be sharing the bar with those that are part of the 1%ers or just a group of mature age riders from the Ulysses club. Its who might be sharing the bar with that makes this place so special. It plays loud classic heavy rock, most nights AC/DC will be the band of choice. Don't walk by go in have a drink, good prices, and good people, just because some of the guest are wearing colours don't be put off they are all great guys Our host At has an infectious, if not loud, laugh that can only make you feel welcome. The wait staff are friendly and attentive, I have not seen any bar girls working there but it is OK to buy the staff a drink. Will I return: Yes most Friday nights.
Lets face it, it's a hard decision when you walk down Loy Kroh Road, which bar do you stop at? This one you're generally not hassled by bar girls as you walk by. This one caters to motor cycle clubs, riders and just those interested in big bikes, which you'll usually see lined up in front as the night winds up. Also attached is reported the best Tattoo parlour in Chiang Mai, but I can't vouch for that first hand. Anyway, the beer is cold, the owner (Ms At) is friendly and welcoming as her ever growing list of friends from around the globe will confirm, and yes, there are bar girls but they're not of the in your face variety which most places have. Pull up a stool and find a friendly rough looking character to have a chat to.
