Nice restaurant but tables are just a bit too close to each other, nice dishes but the taste is just a bit less character. Except the lamb which is really good, soft, lots of taste, good combination with vegetable. But the monkfish is very small quantity and I thought it was another dish all together. Not too impressed but it is not bad.
I have an ambivalent feeling about our visit to Toine Hermsen. Cause really, the quality of the food was excellent, the waiting staff was very friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was okay. Our expectations however were not met. Yes, we are aware of the fact that this restaurant has lost its Michelin star and yes, a star doesn't say everything. The fact was however that we expected to get at least the nice star-like presentation of the food, the pieces. What we got was huge portions of food (definitely NOT nouvelle cuisine like) on off-white rounds plates. This made the salad with the coquilles - which tastes excellent - not look as it could have looked. Or the cod, as a matter of fact... That was some sort of disappointment, especially taking the price of the menu into account. We were told that the restaurant had been open for 12 days in a row because of the Tefaf, and that the chef was exhausted because of that. Well, maybe the reason why we were left with the impression that he doesn't care for the restaurant and his guests like he used to care. It's a pity....
Had a very excellent meal of an incredible standard and the message that we had a vegitarian in our party had not got through with our booking. In the space of 20 minutes they created a full vegitarian option and it was delicious. Great food and outstanding service.
My husband and I had dinner at Toine Hermsen on a Saturday evening. The welcome was friendly, warm, courteous and done in a natural way. We had the 6 course menu and I can recommend this to everyone, starting with a glass of Blanc de Blanc (off course!). In contrary of other restaurants that were informed beforehand of my gluten-allergy, Toine Hermsen's staff was well prepared and I must admit that I had the best glutenfree bread ever. So thanks for that. The chef himself came to pour us the fresh bisque d'homard on our plate. I will definitely go back again to this masterpiece restaurant. Suitable for business dinner and lunches as well as romantic têtê dinners or in a small group.
