The restaurant is now in Kafr Abdou. I wasn't expecting much and it was my first time to try Asian food in Alexandria. It was great, actually. Refreshingly different. Mrs Suzi is the chef and she's very friendly. She keeps checking up on customers. The food comes in decent portions. The menu lacks descriptions of the items but the waiter explains patiently. The spring rolls are nice, so is the chicken. Noodles are ok, too. Everything tastes like delicious home made food. It's a nice place where you can chill out. Not like the hectic super noisy restaurants in Alexandria. I would definitely go again often.
I tried plenty of asian cuisine restaurants here in Egypt and abroad and love the taste and consistency of southern and southeastern asian food, so one day me and my friends wanted to try something new in alexandria and I came out with the idea to check out bamboo due to a friend's recommendation.. first of all the location is new after a relocation and somehow still "hidden". We arrived after calling the restaurant and they helped us a lot in instructions, they even called back several times to see where we are until we arrived. We ordered food for 4 people with a good help from the waiter who described everything well, the atmosphere was good and creative but not that special, the problem was the food itself, it took more than 40 minutes to arrive and begin with the side dishes first!!! And another 20 minutes for the dishes to arrive and one of the main dishes came just before we leave, the waiter told us the delay was due to the "old" cook who "works alone", and argued (eventually in a not-so-friendly tone)that we should have called earlier before we came to prepare the food, I don't know if it is a logical reason knowing that it's our first visit in this place and we don't have to know that we should "reserve food" prior of arriving, I do that when I go to busy restaurants not a small one with only 2 busy tables!!!! In a scale of five I would gave it: Place/location: 4.5 Service: 3 Food: 3.5 Atmosphere: 4 Cleanliness: 4.5 Value over quality: 3.5 Final words, the place and the idea has good potential, but needs to be managed better.
First of all, it is important to note that Bamboo Little Resto has moved from Maht Raml to Roushdie! This is the new address: 18 AMIR ELBAHAR ST. KAFR ABDO, ROUSHDY. Call for reservations: 0100-611-7977, 0122-354-7613. It was like a move from a caravan to a 5-star hotel! The new restaurant is much bigger (with 8 tables + 2 'beduin' style seating spaces), has a beautiful toilet and a big, modern kitchen (which means that you will never smell fried oil again in Bamboo!). Suzie, the owner and chef, who came from Indonesia some 30 years ago, following her Egyptian husband, still cooks but now the new kitchen is big enough for more people working together to make the food faster and easier. Despite all the changes, the unique atmosphere both Egyptian and foreign locals have fallen in love with is always present, because it flows directly from the heart of Suzie and her Bamboo 'family'. Visiting the place for the first time since it's opening in the new location last week, we enjoyed the following dishes: - spring rolls; - onion rings (fantastic! In a tempura-like batter); - spicy tom yum soup with shrimps (my favorite!); - wide white noodles with vegetables and with shrimps; - 2 chicken side dishes; - Chinese tea. Try also the fried banana for dessert and join the Bamboo 'family'!
