I was disappointed at the poor attitude from the man that served us at our works night out. He wore a suit so I assume he was management. I asked if a meal could be made with chicken not lamb and was told abruptly "No". When colleagues asked if the were any dishes that were not too spicy they were told "nothing is too hot it's all about flavour" in a patronising manner as if Indian food could never be too spicy. A colleague of ours was late and we we told we had to order our food. Granted this wasn't their fault but I felt his approach left us feeling we had little time to relax and eat. The other staff were nice and I can only hope he treats his staff better than his customers. The food was nice but certainly didn't make up for the poor service we received from this man. I won't be returning there and could not recommend this place.
I'll go as far as to say that Purple Poppadom is the best place to eat in Cardiff. No one has beaten it for me, yet! Service was attentive, excellent run through with all of the courses. It was very much appreciated! The food is superb! My partner and I have been there twice in the last few months, both occasions we enjoyed the taster menu. Curried shrimp with coconut soup, the sea bass and the rose petal creme brûlée stick in my mind. There were alterations to the taster menu the two occasions that we visited, keeping it interesting and excited for the next time. Book well in advanced though! It fills up quickly! Keep it up PP!
The purple poppadom might look unassuming from street level - in fact you could easily walk straight past without realising it's even there. But once you're inside prepare to be surprised. This is authentic Indian food in a formal setting. The atmosphere is fairly relaxed but you wouldn't want to come here in jeans and trainers. We had lamb and chicken dishes, both delicious. This place is quite expensive though, at around £14+ for a main meal before you've added any sides. Would recommend for a treat or special occasion.
