I have been for dinner twice at The Letterbox Bistro and it has been excellent each time. My most recent visit was a delight. We had olives and bread prior to ordering. The olives were particularly good, nocerella olives marinated by the chef had a subtle, delicious flavour. My starter of Dublin Bay Prawns was very good. The main course of hake on a bed of beans, chorizo and tomato with crispy bacon was delicious - the hake cooked to perfection. Pudding and cheese were also of a high standard. Whilst the surroundings are not the most glamorous it is easy to forget you're sitting in Balerno Post Office. The service was friendly and efficient. At a cost of around £36 each - 3 courses plus bread and olives to nibble - the Letterbox Bistro is good value for the high quality meals prepared with mainly local produce. The restaurant has no licence so it's BYOB with a small corkage charge. If you are in or around the Balerno area this restaurant is well worth a visit.
Had a fantastic evening at the Letterbox Bistro with my girlfriend. Steve the owner creates a relaxed convivial atmosphere and the food was delicious and beautifully cooked by Ali the head chef. We shared an Iberian meat platter, and I then had a lamb rack and cheesecake: all perfection. The bistro itself is set in a charming location which really adds to the experience. Looking forward to my next visit!
We often go to the Letterbox Bistro, the staff are so friendly and helpful, he food is good and the community atmosphere is palpable. We were fortunate enough to get a table at the recent 8 course tasting menu. The food was superb and there was no problem when I had asked in advance about a couple of dietary requirements we had. The service, as always was war, efficient and friendly - they have the ability to make everyone feel special and welcome as individuals, remembering details of when they last saw you and asking how things were.
