Because of proximity to Omi's, my wife and I have eaten at Omi's four times, but the fourth visit was the last. The first three visits were ok, nothing special - we are huge sushi fans. We tried one last time this past May 2015. On this fourth visit, the chicken was hard and dry and the sesame sauce was burnt. As well, we never did get a few of the dishes we ordered from their 'all-u-can-eat' menu. Overall, the food was just not up to the quality of the other five sushi places in the east GTA and Durham and neither did Omi have the selection of dishes. Further, we know that Omi did clean up their kitchen, but a decent kitchen shouldn't have to worry about that! That remains the conundrum with eating out. You don't know the condition of ANY restaurant kitchen unless you see it or hear of an inspection so that's the risk of eating out. Judge on what you see, eat and hear. Based on those factors, we have had out last visit to Omi's. Happy Dining!
For a late lunch/early supper that cost me almost eighty dollars after taxes and tip, I would be better served staying downtown where sushi and all-you-can-eat options are fairer in price and food quality. The only saving grace was the fresh mango slushy. The place was so cold inside on an already cool day that it was uncomfortable and the food served would be cold quickly. The sushi was decent and the tempura shrimp was good. The beef short ribs were cold at serving and too chewy and gristly. Open and spare design-wise, no barriers for those with limited mobility. Washrooms are basic and nondescript. Our server was so uninterested, and while efficient, she emanated zero warmth, zero personality and no smiles in the course of our meal. Which made us feel like we should have just picked somewhere or something else. Anything else before I would come again.
I was a little skeptical at first because of the neighborhood it was in... Not a lot of good restaurants there, just mainly fast and cheap takeout places and your usual Shoeless Joes, etc. But we received a coupon from them so we decided to try it. What a place this is! Menu is not as packed as most AYCE places in my opinion, but I don't mind it. They seem to focus more on quality over quantity. Every time I've been there the food tastes so fresh! They're very clean and service is always great. They're always friendly, never rude and usually very helpful. And also-- what other sushi place would offer coupons?! Keep them coming ! :)
